These are some wellness strategies that I typically use:

  1. Look at what others find works: I am on the net looking at sites that promote recovery and adding what they say to my list.
  2. Listening to music on the Internet and having a variety. For instance, I can find folk, classical, jazz or rock available with or without commercials. For me, I hate commercials so I try to avoid them.
  3. Use caution with strangers: I don't know what's on another person's mind or what he or she may perceive. I have met people who insist that I allow them to speak and become offended when I am not interested in hearing them. These are individuals to avoid.

4. Going to school. At whatever age we may be, it is always a joy to learn new things. Whether these are formal, university classes or workshops at the library, I find time to attend things that interest me.

5. Having a good relationship with my significant other helps me feel grounded. I have someone to whom I am accountable.

6. Exercising at home, at the gym and on the job is very important. This is especially true because it fills our minds with positive feelings and takes up space that might otherwise become a void.

7. Having a cat even means there is play time available. I talk with the cat, make up stories about it and even suggest things it might be telling us.
