Sascha-6 years of Icarus, on farm in same place with other organizers. Simultaneously terrifying and wonderful. Figuring out where I fit in.

 

Sandpiper-Also trying to figure out where I fit in. Getting settled in. Has input from folks who couldn’t be here to share.

 

Candace-Involved in NY Icarus, then in MN for RNC organizing. In process of moving. TIP grant was awesome support, still need to write up.

Mimi-High Point farm. First community conference call. Working out of NYC Icarus office admin/distro out of fountain house.

What’s happening at the retreat?

 

Sascha-Looking at working group structure that was launched 6 months ago. Collective narrative. Power of being in the same place.

 

Mimi-Has been taking retreat notes. Review working group structure.

Media-publication project new edition of Friends Make the Best Medicine, start an e-newsletter, proposal from Ashley for new reader about trauma/recovery.

Education-Start educational campaigns, campus icarus/NYU.

Web-Launch organic groups on Drupal, contact database, storefront for site.

Admin-Budget review of all working groups/overall, fundraise on grassroots level, launch membership program.

 

Molly-Still in process. Dense days.

RNC Check In:

 

Candace-At RNC inside all the time. Emotionally stuck in NM, doing what I could do on smaller scale post convention. Back in NY end of December. What can I do/how to plug in? Having a Thank You event/potluck in MN with wellness center volunteers/post convention get togethers. Candace/Silverelf/Eris worked with NorthStar Collective. List of folks/healers/counselors/professionals who are willing to offer free ongoing support/aprox 12 interested.

Inel-Sandpiper, you’ve been doing the outreach for these calls for a while now. Can you explain how you do it so others may help with outreach in the future?

How To Outreach for Conference Calls:

Put it in roll call

Clarify who it is for…Everybody!

One week in advance. Generate interest/excitement.

All can have a part if they want to.

Send Private Messages

Pay attention on the web forums to what people are interested in.

 

It’s always nice to have new voices on the call.

Silverelf-Great to hear voices. The wonkavator was more wonky than usual this time. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the retreat, more transparent in decision making, more ways to get involved. Gratitude for structural ground work. Hopefully more regular regional/national gatherings.

 

Michael-Committed/connected. Not on forums lately, was years ago. This trip solidifies commitment to doing this work in sustainable way.
