Welcome to the Boston Icarus Project group!
With all the technology in our modern world we can talk to someone across the world in an instant, hop a plane and arrive in remote villages within hours, chat with Japanese students without even having to know the language, watch the sunrise over the Himalayas in real-time, find others interested in everything from the anatomy of sugar ants to chemical reactions on Jupiter... still some of us feel desperately alone. We can connect with other without having to wait but struggle to find kindred souls on our street, in our neighborhoods or in the throng of rush hour commuters. At times it seems almost impossible to find those few and true who share your passions, dreams, quirks and ideas especially if society has labeled these passions, dreams, quirks and ideas abnormal or disordered. Especially when society tells you that these things make you mentally ill. Especially if you start to believe it.
Look around, you will see a world gone mad. For years a select few have been attempting to fit square pegs in circular holes, chipping away until they fit but are left incomplete, missing the characteristics that make them unique. If you are a square peg too strong to be forced to splinters you're tossed to the table; you're left alone, useless, unable to find a place in the world.
Until now.
The Icarus Project is coming to Boston. We seek to navigate the space between brilliance and madness, to cultivate the the wonderful, unique gifts each of us posses and to create a caring community along the way.
You are not alone.
