The Chicago Mad Tea Party is a group of activists in Chicago who advocate self-determination regarding mental health. Many of us are psychiatric survivors and suffer from extreme states of consciousness. We work to empower people with schizophrenia, bipolar, OCD, ADHD, borderline, depression and other labels to take back control of their lives.
Some of us take psychiatric drugs. Some of us don't. We believe in choice and wish to provide people with options outside of the psychiatric model if that is what they want. We believe that the oppression and isolation of a mad society perpetuates mental illness. We believe true community is the solution. Mad pride allies are welcome. We create a safe space free of sexism, homophobia, racism, classism, ableism, ageism and other oppressions.
