Notes:  FightForRoses

On the Community Call, we had:
BMad, in San Francisco, an Icarus founder now helping to run a local SF group
Emico, also in San Francisco, and involved with the local group there
Phoenix9, who has worked for the Icarus national collective and has now gone to Boston, and joined the Boston Icarus chapter
Astra, in New Orleans, also a past national organizer, now traveling
Annie, in Idaho, who goes to college there and was calling in for the first time to learn more about Icarus
Artemis13, in Washington State, also calling in for the first time
Annabalistic, visiting Artemis in Washington, from Idaho,
Jessie, from Canada, now in the UK starting up a local Icarus group and making films about Icarus's story.
and myself, in New Jersey.
I believe we also had someone from a now-disbanded Washington D.C. radical mental health group, but I didn't get your name, I'm sorry. Please post if you're reading this and feel like it.

Phoenix asked about the Mad Love event in San Francisco, which BMad and Emico were part of. They described how they had live performers and a large crowd showed up- there was also an open mic. People went outside and the event apparently spontaniously evolved into an open-air dance party. (Yay. ^_^)

Someone proposes that people talk about the various local groups they're involved with.
Phoenix says that the Boston group she's recently joined has existed for about a year, consisting of weekly peer support meetings.
Annabalistic says that she tried to start a Campus Icarus chapter at the University of Idaho, but it fell apart.
Phoenix says that she organized the NYU Campus Icarus in the past, so she might be able to help if Annabalistic wants to try again. :)

The conversation turns to the U.S. Social Forum, which is happening this June, 22 to 26, in Detroit. Icarus will be presenting a workshop there, and also renting a space in Detroit for one month, for the purpose of having an international Icarus meetup. (First one ever!)
It's mentioned that a working group is being set up to coordinate Icarus's Detroit activities. Emico says that, though she is a full-time student, she would like to be part of this working group.
BMad and Astra talk about a radical collective house in Detroit, Trumbullplex, which Icarus has worked with in the past. Right now, some Icaristas are talking to the people there about where Icarus could rent space for a month. Here is a thread about Icarus and Trumbullplex from a few years ago:

Also attending the Social Forum will be an Anti-Poverty Coalition, marching from NOLA to Detroit and scheduled to arrive when the forum starts. And, a bicycle collective will be biking in from Minneapolis.

Jessie will be coming to Detroit from the UK, to film/document our international convergence. (Icarus documentary! w00t!) She asks when the space will be rented out for. BMad says either from June 1 to July 1, or, if possible, from June 15 to July 15.
We talk about what we want to see happening at our month-long convergence. BMad asks what kind of skillshares people might want to do. Phoenix says she could do an organizing workshop, but would like to see many people from many different places talk about their experience with local Icarus groups. Annabalistic says she could do Tai Chi/ meditation classes in the morning, which Jessie says she would like to help out with.
