Hey everyone,

Thanks to those who attended the first meeting! For those new to this email list, there was one preliminary meeting last month to brainstorm about what this group could become. It was really helpful and encouraging! The group is still in the beginning stages, so the potentials are limitless. Here's some info about the group and the next meeting:

Next meeting: Thursday, Nov. 18,  7-9pm@ the Civic Media Center (in the back courtyard) 433 S Main Street
As of now, meetings are every 3rd Thursday of each month, in conjunction with the Free University.

On the Internet: You can join the facebook group to keep updated. We also have a website, which is an extension of the main Icarus Project website, which has tons of great resources and a forum. It's worth checking out!

Last Meeting: We discussed name changes and if you have any ideas be sure to remember them for the next meeting! We decided meeting in the back garden of the CMC bc of the lighting/atmosphere. Also, for the next meeting if you would like to bring something to eat or work on, like crafts, you are welcome to.

Wait, what's the Icarus project?:The Gainesville Icarus Project is a monthly support group that acts as a safe space for folks to come talk about what's on their mind, free from the traditional stereotypes of the medical system. We support each other, because friendship and community has the power to heal. And we work together to promote alternatives to the dominant views that label our issues as 'illnesses," and that offer us quick fixes of pills and needles.
 
If you are interested in helping with facilitating a meeting/making flyers/hosting a benefit with your art or music or anything else, bring your ideas to the next meeting or shoot an email to Stef or Rusty.
