Every week the paid staff of The Icarus Project have a virtual meeting by conference call to talk about our progress with current projects, tasks, and problems related to the housekeeping duties necessary to keep the Icarus Project afloat as an organization.
We talk about our progress and needs in areas like: getting books and materials written, designed, printed, and distributed; supporting local icarus groups and college organizing efforts; paying bills, contractors, and other expenses; getting events organized; networking with allies and organizations; getting more people involved in the project; collaborating with volunteers, interns, and Icaristas of all stripes; what The Icarus Project's vision is and is not, how we define ourselves, how to open that definition up to more people; how to get more information, dialogue, and education out into the world... and many other things. We talk a lot about our communication, our decision-making processes, and how to help the organization grow into a more horizontal, inclusive, and sustainable network of people. It is hard and sticky work sometimes, and we are learning a lot as we go along.
