Women’s Encuentro:

Madigan read statement to put up on the web forum 2/22:
 
“A group of women who have been centrally involved in organizing with The Icarus Project over the last 5 years have been meeting (by conference call) to discuss the ways that gendered power imbalances (sexism, patriarchy) have affected working relationships in the project, causing many women to leave the project, and to discuss how the power structure of the icarus project and collective roles can be changed to reflect this history and prevent more trauma in the future.  Due to the highly personal and triggering nature of a lot of our experiences, the first couple meetings have been closed to create a safer space for sharing intimate details. Future meetings will be open to all female-identified members of the extended Icarus community who are interested in joining the process of brainstorming how we can transition to a less oppressive, more sustainable network and organizing structure.”

There is a list of common themes and patterns outlined which will not be shared until there is consensus to do so.  More meetings planned which will open up to others in community and form working groups.

General excitement from all about Women’s Encuentro/Transition Team/Flight Plan and how women are taking leadership roles in the process. Organizing beyond just giving input.  

Guys need to step back and let the women lead.

Proposal:  Do we fold Encuentro into Transition Team?  

There is consensus from all, to do so.  

It’s happening anyway.

What about other voices?

How do we get back to Transition Team invitees?

How to make this public?  

Will need a scribe, way to share information, coordinator role.  Clarity around who is involved in what roles.

Who gets paid?  Transition Team gets paid to sculpt document but the women of the Encuentro are doing the work anyway which is unfair.  

Decision making should flow where the leadership is!!!   

Hand back to women’s encuentro and ask women to set next steps for folding transition team into encuentro and how to proceed.  

Day to day basics need to get done-women will set the priorities.

Stuff to work from already exists.  

Will and Sascha will take on a support role, stand aside, be supportive and make selves available.

Will’s schedule has opened up and he will be available by phone to support the process.

Sascha is writing about TIP and wants to collaborate with Will on responding to Transition Team invites.  

Molly will send notes to all and Will, will begin the process of crafting a response to transition team.  

Madigan will include transition team info in Women’s Encuentro invite and share information at Sunday’s meeting.

Contracts:
Molly will be paid for month of February.  Future compensation is dependent on decisions made by W.E./T.T.
