Icarus Collective Meeting 3/25/09

Education/Outreach/Fountain House:

Met earlier today to talk about edu/outreach and fountain house move.  Mimi visit to WRL building.  Back to back meetings next week with Brie, Elliot, Andrew (FH) w/Michael, Mimi, Angel, Annie, Casey (all who are able) seeking support directly from unit leaders for potential space.  Asking them directly before approaching those above.  Talked about pros/cons of education/wellness units. 

Office at WRL/AJ Must building, proposal will be passed along to committee to decide 4/1, will know if there is an offer for space and rent details after that time. 

Michael talked w/Alan and we need to communicate if we need to stay longer at FH before the end of the month. 

What is consensus on our first choice/best case scenario?
See what our options are first.  See what space is available in FH and compare w/cost to move to WRL space makes most sense.

Way for extended collective to be supportive to NYC crew is to help make more developed talking points for FH conversations next week.  *Will agreed to help draft.  Need to be concise and specific, get right people in the room and get on same page quickly.  What are we asking for?  It is important to include voices of those unable to attend. 

Having safe/comfortable space for admin/distro to do work and continuity/consistency is priority. 

RIPPED, came to TIP looking to share space (3 months ago) didn’t realize about the move.  Have not heard from them since. 

Are there any classrooms to propose?  Get an idea of what would work/suggest where.  Propose what it may look like.  Is there a room off Edu unit? 

Wellness seems unlikely/not space for office/distro.  Michael will look at and double check. 

Two prong strategy:
Operate as if we found another space.
Organize around working relationship/partnership.

We can’t force it.  Think strategically.  Take leap of faith.  Look for natural fit. 

Madigan open and available for contact/support. 

Clarity about Lit Zine partnership—Icarus people submitted to project that was not a joint venture.

Good start at what job share in edu/outreach will look like.  Annie/Michael make email draft about job share to circulate.
Annie invites feedback about specific role/focus. 
Fold edu/outreach and campus into whole/Angel and Michael into campus history.  

Spring blog post—Will still receiving submissions.  Good to have up by April.  Molly and Angel submitted info.  Include happenings since Fall post.  Suggestion to seek images from community forums.  Annie has campus images to submit.  Angel will get photos from next week’s outreach.   

Revisit vision to have rep from work groups on collective calls, similar to how web group is organizing. 

Web Group:
Mod meeting went well.  Working group forming, delegating tasks to each other, using organic groups, making decisions about a lot of past issues w/more input.
Nick will keep collective informed about job share potential/sending notes sensing interest.  

The web group modeling organic group use and the crossover for other working groups is inspiring. 

Concerns about donations made to just give making it to TIP account.  It’s happening but processing is slow.

Hunter tabling event Tues 3/31.  Annie share w/NYU campus folks.  4 people agreed to volunteer/ideal would be 6.  Connect w/Angel. 

Defiance Ohio in SF.  Madigan wants distro materials available there.  Mimi will send contact.  Madigan send Mimi email request of amount and type of materials needed.  Wondering about $ from collaboration so far.  Mimi scheduled to check in with Jeff in next couple of days.

What is process for coordinators receiving distro materials?
Need to clarify. 

Next week NYC meetings at FH may affect conference call attendance. 

Rise up list inconsistent and slow to post.  Send emails individually when critical. 

Consensus to 1/2 hour on site to read/check in/post. 

Message sent to Ashley for spring blog post update.  Sascha sent update for inclusion.
