This is one of a series of faces drawn just after emerging from a six-month spell of depression in autumn 2003. I had previously drawn or painted many faces, often screaming as if trying to express an inner pain or horror. But in this series, all the faces are mouthless. Maybe the pain and the darkness within are too great to be expressed.
