"Linea de la Vida (Lifeline)": This print, made in late 2003, evolved considerably during its making. The initial idea was to use only figures from pictures illustrating the mediaeval poem "The Dance of Death." Later came the insertion of the baby and the "lifeline." The baby is drawn from a photograph of me taken on the day I was adopted. My adoption has been a key psychological issue in my adult life and is also related to my manic depression. The anniversary of my adoption can be a traumatic time and has often triggered manic or depressive episodes. This year I spent the anniversary in a psychiatric ward after a "mixed episode" in which I was close to committing suicide.
