Why are people so afraid of clowns?  Someone told me it was because they emote such a wide range of feelings.  I'd say they are known for showing extreme emotion.  Hmmm, where have I heard of this before?  Extreme emotion.... well, that'd be either drunk, stoned, bipolar, or maybe all of the above.

Maybe people are afraid because it would be too easy to see themselves in the mirror like the Emperor with his new clothes?  Fear because they do not want people to see those internal parts they consider ugly-- or that would lead them to otherwise feel exposed?

Just an abstract rhetorical question.
