Celebrity Heaven, Political Hell

I began making collages in part because of my feelings about the hypocrisy and apathy of American culture. I wanted to fuel these feelings into my work and my abstract paintings weren’t helping me do it. Then, in the early 1990s, I saw an advertisement for diet food in a magazine next to a photograph of starving children in Somalia. Immediately I cut both images out and began my first collage.
