Philadelphia Icarus Project Support Group Meeting
Submitted by sealux on Wed, 11/07/2007 - 5:47pmThe Philadelphia Icarus Project is for individuals labeled with a "mental disorder" or who consider themselves to have developmental differences and their allies. We believe in revolutionary change of the for-profit psychiatric industry. Our mission is to eradicate the stigma associated with "labels" and to have direct control over the decision-making process of our mental healthcare treatment tailored to meet our individual needs.
Philadelphia Icarus is an inclusive advocacy and support group. Some of our members use traditional mental healthcare treatments such as pharmaceutical drugs and psychotherapy, however many of our members also explore holistic treatments such as, yoga, meditation, spirituality, nutritional supplements and the body/mind connection. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where people can feel less alienated, whether you are interested in a support group, want to start a project to explore the dangerous artistic gifts many of us possess or want to get involved in mental health advocacy.
Philadelphia Icarus meets the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, 6-8 pm at the A-Space Anarchist Community Space in West Philadelphia located at 4722 Baltimore Avenue on the SEPTA #34 green line surface trolley route.
