Poem: The Other Side of the Mirror Girl

Sometimes I was the shy, shadowy one,
the other side of the mirror girl
Bloody Mary maybe
sometimes in a bad mood
the one she was afraid of
while looking at herself,
She was the one who shined
the sun one,
she and I switched sometimes
She lived in a more watery Tucson
where all the old river washes
once again flowed
and cottonwoods once again
lined the banks of the Santa Cruz
She had raven black hair
she had the warm tone of voice
I saw her way back in there
looking through me,
I was her moon
She was yellow
I was blue
we loved each other
somehow through
thinking we hated
ourselves for way too long
She had her moods too
Somehow we heal
somehow through time
her eyes shining
through
sometimes
she sings too
sometimes
I hear her laughter
from way back
when we were children
