The Jinn

The Jinn came like the crack of dry leaves, scuttled by the wind, in a great swirling vortex all around me. They came like a dust storm in the desert. They do not leave me.
They are ugly and evil spirits, made of fire, they sear my soul, tear at my singed mind. Some say I am indebted. Some, that I am cursed. In any case, the chaos stays beside me, their voices piercing through my consciousness daily like a sword. One alone is called a genie.I was foolish, and ventured a wish to him. All that was sacred and holy blew apart, like a bomb that was detonated within me. I am not whole. I am scattered, fragments, scratched and marred. They are called: Jinn, Dgen, Ginn, Dschin, Djin, Jin, Djinn, Jinun. Singular: jinni, jinnee, genii, genie, djinni, djinny, demon, devil. Lucifer is their leader and master – the prince of darkness, Iblis, formerly Azazel, Satan.
They breed confusion where they go. They are spirits lower than angels, lower than men. The Jinn existed before Adam, an older race of beings. They live in the ether, the mystical realm around the earth. They have no physical form. They hover through the heating grates, air conditioning vents, fans, sounds of trucks screeching past on the highway. The radio, music. They manifest through vibrational events, and in these disruptions, they are able to pull closer. Like humans, they marry and bear children. They are quick to anger, and hold to many rules. They are mischievous, and love to sow confusion and fear. They live long, but not forever.
