New people and Settings

Submitted by Sarsha on Sun, 08/15/2010 - 9:59am.

So I am exploring my control panels over here, and see that I can send an invitation to someone to join. If you all hear of any icaristas who are interested in this place, let me know. I can also change the settings so that it doesn't e mail us everytime someone posts (or maybe everyone can do that individually? Click on My Membership on the right). I can delete the group, or edit posts (anyones). Just so's everyone's aware.

I think individually we can

Submitted by Pheepho on Sun, 08/15/2010 - 11:14am.

I think individually we can set our notification settings re e-mailing us when posts come in.  In order to let people know about the group, it would be possible to mention it on the open forum again, and just say to PM you if interested.  At that point you could send out an invite.  We could do this from time to time so that new Icaristas could learn about the group.

good idea, a reoccurring

Submitted by Awen on Sun, 08/15/2010 - 7:25pm.

good idea, a reoccurring invite every once in a while....

PS I cannot spell.  I was a Toronto Star journalist and none of us could spell, that's why we had copyeditors and spellcheck!

oh my fucking god. How did I

Submitted by Sarsha on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 11:25pm.

oh my fucking god. How did I not realize this?! I am contacting a modulator immediatly. I will request first that the site be set for private viewing and if that doesnt work i dont know should i see if they can erase the forum ? We could A. start fresh with the knowledge that we are less viewable but not private. B.erase everything and  switch to PM's again, but that was a pain... Or C. Continue as is. I think that we each have the power to erase our posts. I even was exploring earlier and realized I can edit you all's posts too- thats weird. Not that I ever would without your permission, but if there is anything you want erased and can't do it, let me know, i might have more access?? I will make contact and get back to you.

Sarsha, you don't need to

Submitted by Pheepho on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 11:33pm.

Sarsha, you don't need to contact a modulator.  You are admin, so you can go in and change the status.  It will be quicker.  Then we can preserve the content as is, but have it become invisible.

Okay I figured it out. I

Submitted by Sarsha on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 11:48pm.

Okay I figured it out. I edited the settings and hit "private" so we are now private for real, and not listed under the groups. I have no idea how new people will join but at least we are back behind the curtain. Also, FYI I discovered that the admin (me) can edit any post ever submitted so if you ever want out of this group and want all of your posts deleted or something I can do it. It'd be tedious as hell., but I can do it.

Phew. Thank God you caught that, how could I have been so stupid?? I am so sorry all I had to do was mark private from the get go. God damn it. I am so sorry.

Don't worry, I don't want

Submitted by Pheepho on Sun, 08/15/2010 - 12:05am.

Don't worry, I don't want you to feel bad.  It was my idea to set up the group this way.  We agreed on the settings, because we wanted to be able to include others.  We just didn't know.  I almost feel the site organizers should have made this clearer.  Possibly we are not the first to make this blunder.  I was sometimes puzzled why the list of groups was so short, amongst all the people on Icarus.  Now I understand.

I'm glad you were online and fixed the problem so quickly.  I think I have to go off line for a while now, I hope you are feeling okay about this and the others are okay.  I'm not even sure right now how I feel.  I kind of remember posting endless ramblings about my issues around disclosure.  How ironic.

Fuck it.  I just went to

Submitted by Pheepho on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 10:45pm.

Fuck it.  I just went to some other groups and realized some of them have blogs and they have events posted publicly and the general community can view it.  I'm the one that suggested setting it up this way, because I wrongly assumed it allowed private posting.  I'm not sure what to do now, I feel sick.

Update

Submitted by Pheepho on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 11:29pm.

We need to change the status of the group in order to hide our posts.  I have messaged Sarsha, and she needs to do that since she is admin.  I also messaged the Icarus site to see if somebody there can change the status in case she doesn't see my message.  I am not ashamed of anything I have written here, but it should be pretty obvious to any outsiders that none of us realized this could be viewed by the general Icarus membership, and possibly the entire world, so in the meantime have some decency and stay the fuck out of our group.
